The Monitoring module – your central hub for media monitoring
Welcome to the ARGUSintelligence Monitoring module! This module is your central hub for receiving, viewing and organising all relevant articles and mentions from a wide variety of media sources. Based on your subscriptions and search profiles, we gather content here from print media, television, radio, online news portals, blogs and social media platforms. All relevant information is structured and prepared so that you can always maintain an overview and work efficiently.
Familiar design for intuitive operation
When designing the Monitoring module, we consciously modelled its structure and appearance on Microsoft Outlook. This decision was made because the Outlook interface is very familiar to most users. Our goal is to provide you with an intuitive and easily accessible platform where you can quickly find your way around and work productively without extensive training.
User interface overview
The user interface of the Monitoring module is clearly structured and divided into several main areas, similar to the layout known from Outlook:

- Left sidebar (navigation): On the left side, you will find the navigation structure. This is divided into:
- Inbox: this is where all new incoming articles initially land. The inbox is often further categorised by media type (e.g. print, TV, radio, online, blogs, social media), as visible in the screenshot.
- Labels (flexible categorisation and tagging): labels in ARGUSintelligence are a versatile tool for organising your articles and can be used in two ways to offer you maximum flexibility:
- Labels as a folder structure: you can create labels that function like traditional folders. Articles are then assigned or moved to a specific label folder to create a clear, hierarchical or thematic structure for your content. In the left sidebar, you can see the label folders you have created and can define new main categories at any time using the “+ Create New Label” button. The “Move to” action in the top navigation bar typically relates to this folder function.
- Labels as Tags (Keywords): labels can also be used like flexible keywords (tags). One or even multiple such labels can be assigned to an article to mark it according to various, even overlapping, criteria without physically moving it from its current location (e.g. the inbox or a label folder). This enables multi-dimensional filtering, searching and thematic linking of your articles. Such tag labels are typically assigned using the Labels button in the top navigation bar.
- Central article overview (middle section):
- In the main middle section, articles are displayed in a list view. This list typically includes preview elements such as the title, a short snippet of text and the article’s date. By default, the articles are sorted by publication date.
- Detail view (right sidebar):
- When you select an article from the central overview, the detail view opens on the right. This provides comprehensive information about the selected item, divided into tabs such as:
- Article: the full text or a detailed summary of the article.
- Metadata: all important additional information like the source, author, publication date, etc.
- Abstract: a section for a brief summary.
- Comments: this feature is not yet available. It is planned for a future release and will then allow you to add, view and discuss internal comments on articles with your colleagues.
- When you select an article from the central overview, the detail view opens on the right. This provides comprehensive information about the selected item, divided into tabs such as:
- Top navigation bar (header):
At the top edge of the module, a function bar provides quick access to important actions and tools. This includes:- Action buttons: a series of buttons allow for direct management and interaction with articles:
- + Add: enables you to manually incorporate new content. This function typically offers options such as:
- New article: allows you to create a new article entry by manually inputting its details, content and metadata.
- New RSS Feed: enables you to add new RSS feed sources directly to the system for monitoring.
- Add to Newsfeed: enables you to add selected articles to predefined newsfeeds, which can be used for internal curation or external distribution.
- Labels: allows you to apply one or more descriptive tags (keywords) to selected articles for flexible organisation and filtering, without necessarily moving the articles from their current locations.
- Move to: enables you to move selected articles into specific label folders for structured, folder-based categorisation.
- Change sentiment: enables you to manually assess, adjust or set the sentiment (e.g. positive, negative, neutral, ambivalent) associated with an article.
- View source: opens the original source of the selected article, typically displaying it as a PDF or linking to the live online version, depending on the media type.
- Share (coming soon): this feature is planned for a future release and will allow you to share selected articles with others, potentially through various integrated channels (e.g. email, other platforms).
- Mark read/unread: toggles the status of selected articles between “read” and “unread”, helping you keep track of reviewed content.
- Delete: removes selected articles from the active view and moves them to the recycle bin. Articles in the recycle bin can typically be restored or permanently deleted later.
- + Add: enables you to manually incorporate new content. This function typically offers options such as:
- Search and advanced filtering: the header also features sophisticated search capabilities:
- Global search bar (omnisearch): the prominent search bar acts as an omnisearch tool. It allows you to search for keywords across the entire ARGUSintelligence application, not just within the Monitoring module. As you type, it provides suggestions to help you quickly locate information, similar to the search experience in platforms like SharePoint.
- AI-powered natural language filtering (within the Monitoring module): when used within the Monitoring module, the search interface is enhanced with a powerful AI function. This allows you to type queries in plain, natural language (e.g. “show me articles on AI ethics from Swiss blogs published last month”). The AI interprets your query and automatically translates it into the appropriate filters for the article list. The primary goal of this feature is to enable sophisticated data filtering without requiring you to manually open, configure and apply complex filter dialogs, making your analysis more intuitive and efficient.
